“Pages checked” is the number of your site’s pages that RankDots looked at in its last Opportunities scan. The recommendations to improve, expand or split an existing page are about these pages.
Where you’ll see it
At the top of Opportunities, next to your site’s address, the date of the last check and the Rescan button. It appears once Google Search Console is connected and the first scan has finished. The info icon beside it explains that your plan analyses a selection of your most important pages, and that on larger sites some pages or keywords may not be included.
Which pages are checked
RankDots takes the pages of your site from your Search Console data for the last 28 days. Each unique URL counts once. Your plan sets how many pages a scan can include: on a larger site, RankDots checks a selection of your most important pages and leaves the rest out, and some keywords can be left out too. See Plan limits [link is coming].
For each page it checks, RankDots reads the page and compares it with the keywords and topics collected for your project. That comparison is what the recommendations are built from.
How to read it
- Close to the number of pages on your site: Opportunities sees most of your site.
- Lower: on a larger site, your plan’s limit is the usual reason. Pages with no impressions in Google in the last 28 days are not in your Search Console data, so they are not counted either. A Search Console property that covers only part of your site, such as one folder or one subdomain, also lowers the count. See Which Search Console property to choose [link is coming].
- Zero, or no count: see Search Console shows no data [link is coming].
Not to be confused with
- The Pages screen. Its count is the pages in your plan: groups of keywords that can rank together on one URL. Many of them do not exist on your site yet. Pages checked counts only pages that already exist. See What page means in RankDots.
- “Show skipped”. That filter in the recommendations list shows recommendations you chose to skip, not pages the scan left out.
What it doesn’t tell you
- How well the pages perform. A checked page can be doing well or badly; the recommendations say which.
- What changed since. The count is from your last scan. New pages, and pages that started appearing in Google, are counted only after a Rescan.
- What is on the pages left out. RankDots does not read them, so a recommendation can suggest a new page for a topic one of them already covers. Check your site before you write.
