What is a Project?
A project in RankDots is a complete analysis of a topic or niche. Each project contains:
Topics: High-level content categories
Pages: Specific content opportunities
Keywords: Detailed search data with metrics
Content: AI-generated articles you create
One project = one seed keyword + one target country + one language.
You can create multiple projects to analyze different niches or the same topic in different markets.
How to Create a New Project
Step 1: Start Project Creation
Click "+ Add new project" in the left sidebar. The project creation dialog appears.
Step 2: Enter Your seed keyword
Type a topic or keyword that represents your niche. Examples:
"email marketing"
"project management software"
"vegan recipes"
Step 3: Select Country and Language
Country: Where your target audience searches (affects search volumes and SERP data)
Language: Language of keywords and content
Step 4: Click "Find opportunities"
RankDots begins analyzing your topic. You'll see a progress screen while data is collected.
Step 5: Refine Your Topic (Optional)
For ambiguous keywords, RankDots may ask you to select relevant categories. For example, "Apple" could mean the fruit or the company.
Check the categories that match your intent and click "Find opportunities" to continue.
While your project builds, you'll see:
Keywords found: Running count of discovered keywords
Pages built: Number of content opportunities identified
Topics built: Number of high-level categories created
Progress bar: Overall completion percentage
Service status: Which pipeline stages are complete, running, or pending
You can navigate to the Topics, Pages, or Keywords views at any time. Data appears as it becomes available — you don't have to wait for full completion to start exploring.
At the very bottom of the sidebar, you will find the project's Settings, where you can edit the project's name or delete it completely.
