Your plan may hold thousands of keywords, hundreds of pages, dozens of clusters. You need exactly three moves today: pick one topic cluster, open its best page, create that page’s content. Everything else can wait - including reading the rest of the plan.
And if you want the moves shown to you: press Walk me step by step in the banner. A ten-step guided tour walks exactly this path, tooltip by tooltip - from the first cluster card, into a page’s details, through content settings and Generate, to your finished document and its export menu. This page is the same path, self-serve - press I explore all myself and follow along.
Move 1 - Pick one topic cluster
One. Not a shortlist of five - one. The cards are already sorted by Potential traffic, so the biggest opportunities are the first row you see. Scroll that first row and pick the cluster that is unmistakably your business. If two candidates tie, take the one with the lower Difficulty, or the low difficulty badge.
Do not agonise: your first cluster is not a marriage. Star it, and if a second one tempts you, star that too - for later. How to choose your first topic [link is coming] has the full method for when the choice genuinely matters.
Move 2 - Open its best page
There is even a shortcut: the Cluster structure preview on the card already highlights the pages with the highest traffic potential, and pointing at one reveals Details and Create buttons - the tour itself takes this route.
Select Explore topic & pages on your cluster. You are now looking at its pages - each one a piece of content you could create - with two columns that make the choice for you: Potential traffic, the visits a page could realistically gain, and Weak spots, how many of its current results your site could beat with content alone.
Take the page where both look good: real potential, weak spots present. The high potential traffic badge is usually pointing at it already. How to prioritise pages [link is coming] covers the finer trade-offs - none of which you need today.
Move 3 - Create its content
Select Create content on that page. RankDots proposes settings based on what already ranks - the recommended values are already applied, so you can simply press Generate. Generation usually takes a few minutes, and the finished document opens in the editor: edit it, then use Copy / Export to copy to clipboard or download as HTML, Markdown, Word or PDF. Writing with your own tools instead? Export LLM brief on the settings screen packages the same brief for them. How content creation works walks the whole flow.
What not to do on day one
- Do not read the keyword list. Thousands of rows are reference material, not reading material - you will consult them page by page, never all at once.
- Do not tidy the plan first. Deleting clusters that do not fit, importing your own keywords - all real, all later. Tidying is how a first session ends with nothing created.
- Do not start three clusters at once. Depth in one subject beats a page each in three. The clusters you skipped are not going anywhere.
- Do not wait for Search Console. It unlocks Opportunities and measured data - valuable, and entirely unnecessary for creating your first piece of content.
After the first piece
Repeat inside the same cluster: next best page, create, again. When the routine question becomes “what do I do this week?”, the RankDots cheat sheet is the one-screen answer - and connecting Search Console becomes worth your while, so your published pages start reporting back.
